Chocolate (cacao) porridge – sugar free

So who doesn’t love chocolate first thing in the morning? Well my husband doesn’t actually, but the rest of us in our family love this indulgent breakfast.

We all know that oats are a great start to the day with slow energy release and high fibre. Add some cacao powder, which is a good source of iron and potassium and a banana and this is a winner breakfast.

If you add some fresh fruit on top of the porridge then you can smugly send them off to school, work or just off to play knowing that you filled them with goodness.

Ingredients: serves 4

160g oats

1 tablespoon cacao powder (12 calories and 4% of your daily iron)

1 mashed banana

1 cup water

1.5 cups milk (oat, almond, soy or cow’s)

Fresh fruit as a topping

Method:

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a pan and stir gently.
  2. Heat on medium heat for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Serve with fresh fruit or just with a bit of cold milk.
  4. This porridge goes well with my Incredible Hulk pancakes   https://ferriefamilymeals.com/2016/09/04/spinach-and-banana-incredible-hulk-pancakes/
